COVID-19 Policy and Travel Information

SSA will be following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the Annual Meeting.

Vaccination Requirement

All presenters and in-person attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 per the CDC.

SSA is working with 42Chat, who will ask attendees to provide verification of your vaccination status by using their HealthShield tool, which is accessible via phone or computer. 

Attendees with U.S. mobile phone numbers will receive a text message with a link to upload documents. International attendees may use this link or the below QR code to upload.

Attendees will be asked to provide their name, email and to upload a photo of vaccination verification. Please only include one photo to verify vaccination status. If you need to show multiple cards, please arrange them and take one photo of all of the cards.

Accepted vaccines include:

Two-dose Series:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca
  • Covaxin
  • Covishield
  • BIBP/Sinopharm
  • Medicago
  • Sinovac
  • Novavax/Covovax

Single dose:

  • Janssen/J&J

Are you fully vaccinated?

You are considered fully vaccinated:

  • 2 weeks (14 days) after your dose of an accepted single-dose vaccine
  • 2 weeks (14 days) after your second dose of an accepted 2-dose series
  • 2 weeks (14 days) after you received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine (not placebo) in a clinical trial
  • 2 weeks (14 days) after you received 2 doses of any “mix-and-match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines administered at least 17 days apart*

If you don’t meet these requirements, you are NOT considered fully vaccinated. A booster dose is not needed to meet this requirement.

A person who has received only one dose of an accepted 2-dose series and has recovered from COVID-19 does not meet this definition, and therefore is NOT considered fully vaccinated for travel to the United States.

*CDC has not recommended the use of mix-and-match COVID-19 vaccine primary series. However, such strategies are increasingly common in many countries outside of the United States. Therefore, for the purpose of interpreting vaccination records for travel to the United States, CDC will accept combinations of accepted COVID-19 vaccines.

Mask Policy

Masks are required in all meeting spaces except when actively eating or drinking. Food and drinks are not permitted in tech rooms.

Travel Reminders and Requirements

Plan ahead:

  • Make sure you understand and follow all state, tribal, local, and territorial travel restrictions, including proper mask wearing, proof of vaccination, testing, or quarantine requirements.
  • For up-to-date information and travel guidance, check the state, tribal, local and territorial health department’s website where you are, along your route, and where you are going.
  • If traveling by air, check if your airline requires any testing, vaccination, or other documents.
  • Prepare to be flexible during your trip as restrictions and policies may change during your travel.

Travel Reminders:

  • Do not travel if you are sick, tested positive for COVID-19 and haven’t ended isolation, had close contact with a person with COVID-19 and haven’t ended quarantine, or are waiting for results of a COVID-19 test.
  • Delay travel until you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required in indoor areas of public transportation (including airplanes) and indoors in U.S. transportation hubs (including airports).

International Travel Requirements

The below CDC requirements are for non-U.S. citizen, nonimmigrant passengers arriving from a foreign country to the United States by air.

If you are a non-U.S. citizen who is a nonimmigrant (not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa), you will need to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before you travel by air to the United States from a foreign country.

Some categories of noncitizen, nonimmigrants are excepted from this requirement. If you meet the criteria for one of these categories, you will need to fulfill additional requirements to travel by air to the United States.

At this time, all air passengers ages 2 or older, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, must show a negative result of a COVID-19 viral test or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States.

Domestic Travel Requirements

Check your destination’s COVID-19 situation before traveling. State, tribal, local, and territorial governments may have travel restrictions in place.

As of 11 March, Washington state does not require COVID-19 testing for any inbound or outbound domestic travel.
